Making use of Aromatic Accents in Your Home

Scented candles have come a long way in recent years. It used to be that the scent of the candle could only be smelled by directly sniffing it. Now scented candles are made with scented oils which provide a long lasting scent even after the flame has been extinguished.

Beyond the longer lasting aroma of these candles are the containers which house them. Elegant glasses and vases are now the rage for the newest crop of candles emerging on the scene. Even if the candle does come with its own container you can find a suitable one for them yourself. Some former smokers have found a use for their decorative ashtrays by placing scented candles in them and using them as center pieces for coffee tables, end tables, and mantles. Decorative shot glasses are also a great to house smaller scented candles within making a nice decoration for the bar.

Scented Rocks

A form of potpourri, scented rocks are becoming popular for aromatherapy uses. Even retailers such as Neiman Marcus are selling scented rocks in their home section as an aromatherapy sleep aid. Since scented rocks typically are packaged in a bag, you have free range to select the container of your choice for the rocks.

Some scented rocks come in a box display similar to traditional potpourri which can be elegant. However, these aromatic rocks can be displayed vases, wine goblets, wine flutes, fruit bowls. A great tabletop display is to use fruit scented rocks in a fruit bowl and place plastic fruit on top of them.

Accent Strategically

These three types of aromatic accents should be strategically placed around the home. Not only should style be taken into consideration, but your household and the type of fragranced accent will also dictate where you place these scents. Since reed diffusers are wooden reeds placed in a scented oil base, they can discolor surfaces if knocked over and spills occur. Also be mindful if you have pets and/or children, place the diffusers out of their reach, especially pets as they may try to drink the diffuser oil or eat the scented rocks.

Have fun accenting your home with these fragranced decorations and enjoy the aroma!
