Once the weather starts to turn warm, you should start looking for pests and diseases. If you identify any, or don’t spend the time to address them they can get out of hand. Fortunately, you can get your plants healthy enough that they can protect themselves throughout the season, with an early application of pesticide.
Common Pests to address with Pesticides
Louse
Aphids sit on the top of the shoots and remove the sugars from the plant. This is at the expense of growth. Besides bringing aphids viral diseases. Ladybugs and lacewings eat aphids on a few lice is not a problem. Come and take action when it gets too bad. Use a responsible (chemical) agent, for example, on the basis of fatty acid soaps or pyrethrins. Such resources are degraded fairly quickly in the environment, but are toxic to lice. Grass Soot and Rust
Soot dew
Soot Dew is dirty, sticky, black deposits on leaves and twigs. Cause is the aphid, which sucks sugar-rich fluid from the plant. The moisture, honeydew, is partly excreted again and dripping out of the plant. The falling on leaves and twigs, after which a fungus grows. This fungus gives the leaves and twigs black sooty mold. The mold layer is difficult to remove and smothered the leaves and twigs. Fight therefore the cause, the louse.
Rust
Rusting is a fungal disease and other causes orange brown spots on the underside of the leaf. After a few weeks they are getting darker. The disease occurs mainly in hot and humid weather. The plant dies in severe damage. Fight rust with a fertilizer with high potassium content. Cut the sheet to the ground and give the plant a strengthening agent for protection against fungal diseases.

Mildew
Mildew and downy mildew are fungi that form a powdery layer on your plants and thus stifle the blade. Read more about how to recognize mildew, prevents and combats .
White flies
White flies are small butterflies with white powder on the wings. They suck on soft plant parts and separate fresh water from which grow sooty molds. The moths lay eggs on the underside of the leaves. Within three weeks, get there adult white flies and therefore quickly form a plague. Fight the fly with a chemical agent. Especially fuchsias and geraniums have quite a bother.
Prevent and Protect
Make sure your plants are healthy and strong, they have the best resistance when strong. Prevent diseases and degradation:
- Choose plant species that do well in your garden.
- Avoid unilateral and excessive fertilization. Fertilizers provide rapid growth surge. Use this to an acute shortage, but do not do it too often as you will disturb the soil composition.
- Give organic fertilizer that builds the soil. Use caution with organic fertilizer, if you give too much too fast, you can burn your lawn.
- Use fresh grass seed. Weakened, old seed is more susceptible to diseases.
- Stick to the sowing and cultivation instructions on the packaging.
- Keep your lawn weed free.

Protect your plants in their first stage with a propagator . So your plants grow sheltered from weather and wind. Or protect your plants with foil stretched over tunnel arches.
